“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing;it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
That’s Ephesians 2:8-9. Proof that only FAITH can save us. Let me make this clear to you. There’s no amount of good we could ever do to EARN God’s love. But He gives it to us freely anyway.
Some people don’t get this. Some people think not sinning and doing good things for people will earn you God’s love somehow. FALSE. Apparently, the Bible alone won’t do it for you. So let’s think about this logically.
This is for the Christians who think God’s grace and love can be earned, or, rather, HAS to be earned. You can relax. God’s love is free, and His grace only takes your faith in Him.
You know God loves. In fact, you know the words, God is love. And God is perfect in every single way, including the way He loves.
So let’s find an illustration for perfect love, since it’s hard to wrap our minds around. The best picture we on Earth can have of perfect love is a marriage that lasts for the rest of the couple’s life. No separation or divorce. They’re together forever, so to speak.
Now tell me, do these couples stay together because they never have problems? Because neither of them have ever done anything to hurt the other?
Ask any married couple and you’ll find this is not the case. We’re human. Everyone does wrong to each other. That’s life. People will always let people down. But the best and happiest married couples find ways to forgive each other. They love each other, and they want it to work out.
That’s the best picture of purely unconditional love I can find. Imagine that kind of love multiplied by one billion trillion trillion trillion. That’s a bit of a piece of the kind of perfect love God has for us.
I’m not exactly the world’s leading expert in love. I can only tell you that I’ve personally felt God’s love for me even when I’m turned completely away from Him. He loves to bring us back. No matter what we do, He’ll be there. I can tell you that much just from experience. Just something to think about. Tillman out.
